Between January and June this year, the Authority for Working Conditions (ACT) detected 480 companies with unpaid wages for more than 60 days in the amount of 1.8 million euros. This amount corresponds to about a third of the 5.4 million euros in debt accounted for ACT throughout the year 2014, in 802 cases then recorded.

Although the number of companies with difficulties to timely pay wages or subsidies recorded in the first half of this year to be in line with the profile observed last year concerned the values ​​are much lower. This is not surprising António Saraiva, because it reflects the adjustment that was being done by companies, pushed by the recessionary climate in recent years. “After a catastrophe, to which many companies could not survive and many found themselves sadly forced to delay salaries, it is natural that the situation is improving, because the bulk of the adjustment has been done,” says the president of the Business Confederation From Portugal.

António Saraiva also points out that in some of these situations are concerned mainly delays in the payment of holiday pay and Christmas, since doubling the payroll at two times per year turns out to be the moment of greatest squeeze for companies with difficulties treasury.

These cases of overdue wages were detected by the Authority for Working Conditions, that over the first six months of this year made 13,761 visits to inspetivas 8953 companies, according to the data provided by it to the DN / Mad Money. But these situations are not part of the lot of most frequently detected violations, which is made up of failures related to the insurance of industrial accidents, lack of worker admission health checks for the absence of organization of health and safety services at work.
