Portugal is the third worst country in Western Europe to ensure the social and economic well-being of people over 60 years old, just ahead of Malta and Greece, reaching the 38th position worldwide.

The data contained in Global Index AgeWatch 2015, which ranks countries according to the social and economic well-being of older people and that is carried out by HelpAge, a global network that promotes the rights and needs of women and men older. Among the 96 countries of the world evaluated, Portugal appears in 38 place, that is, among the forty best and above the middle of the table, but when the analysis is done taking into account the 19 Western European countries, Portugal is referred to the basis of the table, being the third worst, ahead of only Malta and Greece. The first places among the countries of Western Europe, are occupied by Switzerland, Norway, Sweden and Germany, countries that occupy the same places in the table worldwide. Compared to the 2014 index, Portugal falls a position, but looking at the fall 2013 is four places. For indicators, the worst result of Portugal is in training, including employment and education among older people, which is in 83 place, four places below the 79th position achieved in 2014. (Read more)
