Non-performing loans fell in June

The bad debts of households and firms fell slightly in June to 18,587 million euros, which means about 9% of total credit granted both to individuals and to businesses.
According to figures from the Bank of Portugal published on Tuesday, June total loans granted by banks to households and businesses amounted to 207,013 million euros, of which 18,587 million were considered non-performing loans, equivalent to 9% of total loans.
Considering only the credits allocated to households, these amounted to 121,663 million euros, a decrease of 0.4% compared to the previous month. Of this amount, 99,984 million euros correspond to mortgage loans and 11,962 million were related to loans for consumption.
The doubtful loans to households reached 5363 million in June, representing a decrease of 1.4% from the previous month in which the bad debt of households was 5440 million.
Resulting these values, credit granted to households in default hit a 4.4% rate in June compared to 4.5% in May. (Read more)
