The bad debts of households and firms rose again in October, reaching 5,373 million euros and 13,064 million, respectively, reaching new records, released the Bank of Portugal. According to the central bank in October of 124 527 million that the bank had lent to households, 5,373 million were considered doubtful loans, representing 4.31% of total loans.

In October, the bad debt of households amounted to 4.29% of total loans granted to individuals, representing 5,363 million euros of 125 034 million granted. Earlier this year, the doubtful loans exceeded 4% of total loans and since then has achieved new highs every month. Also the bad loans in housing as a percentage of total loans provided for this purpose rose from 2.50% in September to 2.52% in October, reaching 2,586 million. In relation to consumer credit, the data of the Bank of Portugal shows that the bad debt returned to slightly increase from 10.79% in September to 10.82% in October, to stand at 1,308 million euros.Quanto to credit for other purposes, governor numbers realize that the bad debt increased from 14.84% to 14.90% in the last two months, also reaching a new record. For enterprises, the bad debt also increased from 13.87% in September to 14.1% in October, reaching a new record. In October, the doubtful loans in companies amounted to € 13,064 million from 92,679 granted.

Since February the bad loans to companies exceeded 10% of the total issued and that each month has reached a new record, surpassing in October 14% of total loans.
